Best Buddies, was founded by Anthony Kennedy Shriver in 1989 as a non-profit organization. It is the first national integrated social and recreational program for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the US. As of 2019, the project of 30 years has been implemented in 53 countries across the globe and in 50 states in USA.
Best Buddies Turkey, was established in 2011 by Alternative Life Association (AYDER). After the accreditation process and acquisition of the accreditation rights, Turkey has become the 50th country to have implemented the Project. As of 2019, Best Buddies Turkey has been running Friendship Program in 5 cities which are İstanbul, Edirne, Kırklareli, Tekirdağ, İzmir (Bergama).
